New for 2019!  "INTERNET OF THINGS FOR KIDS IoT"

Since our kids will become adults in a world that will be more interconnected than ever (cars, computers, refrigerators, traffic lights, washing machines, smart sensors, store checkouts, smart beds, voice and mind control), with Artificial Intelligence being an integral part of that world, it is imperative that they understand it and learn how to take advantage of the opportunities that it will offer. Register to become a master of microcontrollers, programming and online control, smart buttons and internet wizardry then surprise your parents, neighbors, and friends by making the impossible possible!
Students will have the option to take their IoT kits home (Cost-Of-Materials Fee applies to all optional take-home kits)

Five 3-hr sessions, Monday - Friday
No previous experience necessary, beginner to advanced levels
Ages: 10 to 14

Students acquire basic concepts related to energy and energy "creation". Using gravitational towers, Lego motors as generators, water, fans, doors, rechargeable batteries, LEDs, sunlight and solar cells, and even their own bodies they will discover amazing facts about the relatively infinite energy that sustains life and makes planets spin. It all ends with a technical demo where family and friends are guests of honor. (bring cookies, it's a party!)

"Drone Commander For Kids"

In this super exciting program for beginners, students go through a quick primer on fundamentals of flying (winged creatures, hot air balloons, parachutes, gliders, airplanes, jet engines, helicopters, rockets, interplanetary spaceships), learn the basics of propeller-based flight, discuss main differences between helicopter and drone design. We use advanced, 6-axis mini-drones with built-in video cameras and mini-helicopters that can be flown both indoors or outdoors. It all ends with a breathtaking drone-flying skill super-challenge that produces a winner taking home a cool-looking (and flying) surprise!

NOT OFFERED IN 2018 but drone enthusiasts might want to consider registering for the super exciting "Design, 3D-Print, Assemble, And Fly Home Your Own Real Drone" summer camp (scroll down to read the camp description)

"Holography For Kids"

A one-of-a-kind opportunity for all kids to learn the basic concepts of optics and become familiar with ways to transmit and manipulate light. Using curiously-shaped lenses, flashlights, laser LEDs, dark boxes, pinholes, tubes, and special glasses, they will design experiments that will explore a wide array of issues, from understanding what a photon is to the miracle of the rainbow effect. Of course, all of that will be done with a single purpose in mind: creating something as close as possible to a real hologram!

"Robotics for Kids" (Robots As Real As Those Sent to Mars)
(beginner and intermediate levels)

The most fun that can be packed in an ATFK program! Students discover why robots are considered "smart" machines and build their own autonomous mobile robotic systems while mastering the basics of programming - each change in a line of code will be immediately observed in the changed behavior of a moving robot. Real sensors, real motors and real, programmable robot-control CPUs are combined with easy, drag-and-drop programming - all with the familiar Lego look. Depending on skills and interest, students will work with different versions of the Lego Robotics System: RCX, NXT, EV3. It all ends with a public presentation and competition (usually a robotic battle) where family and friends are guests of honor. Bring cameras and robotic towels!

"Mobile App Design For Kids"
(for iWatch, iPhone, iPad, Android & Windows smart watches, mobile phones and tablets)

Students will learn how to create a mobile app starting from scratch and ending with a demo app on the mobile device of their choice. Some notable apps from previous years: a collection of yummy recipes, a color guide for painters and an app that maintained an inventory of student's Lego sets. Here is the chance to start working on the next viral app that might end up being downloaded by millions of users worldwide!

Students learn the fundamentals of movie making including writing the story line, character development, scene design and set up, sound and video editing. They will create their own animated movies using Lego mini-figures and other inanimate objects.

All movies will be uploaded on YouTube to be shared with family and friends everywhere. The "Animation Movie Studio For Kids" memories last forever!

"3-D Printing & Design For Kids"

Welcome to the future where humans design and then "3-D print" their own gadgets whenever they need them, in the comfort of their homes. Learn the basics of 3-D design and printing then create (imagine, design and print out) a simple 3-D object that you can take home at the end of the camp. Colorful keychains with a personal touch are the most popular choices but only your child's imagination is the limit ... and the limited time allotted to this "back-from-the-future" program.

Best of all, play your online video game anytime, even after the summer camp has ended! Use what you've learned during the camp to create more mind blowing video games later. Student skills will be assessed on the first day of camp. Based on that, each student will be encouraged to choose from among a list of game development tools (HTML5 with Canvas, MIT's Scratch platform, Javascript, Python, etc).
